You can make short work of ripping large panels with this simple jig.

  • Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
  • 5.2mm (1/4") plywood (optional)
  • #6x1" Screws (for MDF Guide piece) #6x3/4" Screws (for plywood Guide piece)
  • Wood glue

Constructing The Jig

As you go through the project, predrill for and countersink all screws.

  1. Lay the MDF sheet flat on your work bench.

  2. Position the guide piece on top of the MDF sheet so its cut edge (not the factory edge) is flush with one edge of the MDF sheet. One end of the MDF sheet and one end of the guide should also be flush. If you use MDF for the guide, both ends of the guide will be flush with both ends of the MDF sheet. Screw and glue the guide in place.

  3. Cut the Bed Free.
    Cut the bed free from the MDF sheet.
    Clamp the assembly to your work table with the MDF sheet extending over the edge of the table. Position your saw's foot tight against the guide's factory edge. Sight down the length of the MDF sheet from underneath to ensure the blade will not cut into your work table. Cut the bed keeping the saw's foot tight against the guide.

  4. If you used plywood for the guide, cut off the extra inch of MDF protruding past the plywood's end.




Good Idea. Good idea:  Wax the top of the bed and the edge of the guide to reduce friction and allow the saw to slide freely in the jig.

Using the Jig

Woodworkers.Mark your stock where it needs to be cut, position the jig so the edge of the bed falls along the cut line and clamp the jig securely to the stock. Place your saw with the foot tight against the guide's factory edge and cut.
