1. Select a 2'x4' sheet of pre-cut project panel. We recommend 1/2" thickness.
2. Measure and cut the plywood. From a 2'x4' pre-cut project panel, you
will be able to cut three 8" wide pieces
of wood. Use a jig saw with a plywood cutting blade
to cut the wood. Support the pieces using a sawhorse for
stability. The length should be cut to 30". You
should also cut two pieces that measure 8" by 7 1/2" for the
sides of the box.
3. Examine the 8" pieces. You may have one piece that does
not measure a full 8”. This piece should form the base of
the box.
4. Attach the long sides to the outside of the base,
first using wood glue, then hammering the nails in to
firmly attach the boards. A “U” shape will result.
5. Complete the window box with the remaining boards by
placing the shorter pieces on the inside of the two longer
pieces. Attach with wood glue first, then nail securely into
place from the bottom and sides.
6. Drill two to three drainage holes in the bottom of the box. These holes should be evenly spaced out.
7. Sand the edges of the window box with sandpaper or an electric sander.
8. Apply two coats of acrylic latex paint.
9. If you’d like to decorate your window box with a painted
flower, simply draw a flower shape onto tracing paper,
then outline the shape onto the plywood. Use the jig saw
to cut the shape from the plywood. Sand the edges and
paint. To attach to the window box, determine attractive
spacing and attach with wood glue.

Good idea: You
can easily adjust the size of the window box to suit your location
or window box liner. Simply determine the measurements and adjust
your cuts accordingly.
