Cut 2"-wide veneer banding into 4"-long pieces using household shears. (You'll need two pieces per tag.)
Stack two pieces and laminate them together with a household iron on the cotton setting. Heat the pieces for about 15 seconds to bond them together.
Download the Gift Tag Pattern. Using shears, clip a 3/4" diagonal from two corners according to the pattern.
Drill a hole between the diagonal edges with a 1/4" bit.
It's a good idea to place a piece of scrap wood beneath the tag before drilling the hole to prevent tearing.
Use a sanding block to even all the edges and to knock off the sharp corners; wipe with a cloth.
To seal the wood, apply a coat of polycrylic spray and sand the finish smooth with a fine-grit sanding sponge; let dry.
Write a message with a Sharpie and tie a ribbon through the 1/4" hole. Repeat to make additional tags.
