From a washed and pressed drop cloth, cut the front 1" larger than the pillow form and the back 1" wider and 4" longer than the pillow form.
Cut the back into two equal pieces along its width. Where each piece was cut, double-fold and sew 1/4" hems.
Download the owl stencil and reduce or enlarge the pattern on a copier. Cut openings for the eyes, beak, and feathers with a crafts knife.
Pin the stencils on the front piece of fabric and trace the designs. Paint the traced areas with the following colors:
When dry, lay the two back pieces on the front piece with the hems, facing out, near the center. Sew the pieces together using 1/2" seams. Turn the cover inside out to hide the seams and insert the pillow.
