Seal the pot with exterior polyurethane and let dry.
Download, print, and tape together the butterfly wrap pattern. Check the fit of the pattern around your pot and trim as needed for a snug fit -- wrap should not extend beyond the bottom of the pot. Trace the pattern on flashing and cut out one wrap and six loose butterflies.
The amount of materials shown makes about 15 wraps.
Use a crafts or utility knife to cut only the shapes of the wings on the three butterflies on the wrap. (At the centers between the wings, leave about 1/8-inch uncut).
Stack and tape two loose butterfly cutouts on top of a partially cut butterfly on the wrap. Then sew them together from the top to bottom.
If you don't have a sewing machine, it's possible to sew the pieces together using a needle and thread. If necessary, grip the needle with pliers to drive it through the three layers of vinyl.
Gently fold and crease the butterfly wings while keeping the center steady to prevent tearing.
Seal the pot with exterior polyurethane and glue the ends of the wrap together and to the pot.
