Attach a clamp to the sides of the rosette at the bottom. Then clamp the first clamp to a work surface to hold it steady.
Find the center of the block along its thickness and draw a straight line there from side to side and 1/4-inch down on both sides.
Using a coping saw, cut a 1/4-inch-deep notch at the line. Sand the edges with 120-grit sandpaper until smooth.
Spray-paint the block in your desired color. (We used Frosty Berry.) Let dry.
Insert the photo into the groove.
