Have a Lowe's lumber associate cut 7-1/2" and 8" sections from the 1/2" x 6" craft board.
Sand the brackets and cut pieces of lumber.
Measure 1/8" in from the edge on both sides of the cut craft boards. Draw a guideline on the 7-1/2" craft board to indicate the placement of the brackets.
Apply beads of glue along one back of a bracket and place it against the guidelines on the 7-1/2" board with the tall edge of the bracket flush with the end of the board. Clamp together and let dry. Repeat with the second bracket.
Create the back of the bookend by applying beads of glue on the backs of the brackets and the top edge of the attached board. Now attach the 8" board to the bracket, aligning all edges. Clamp together and let dry. Or, rest the bookend on the freshly glued section and let dry.
Apply stain to bookend following the manufacturer's instructions.
