Instructions

Step 1

Pick up a picture frame at a garage sale or thrift store, or find one collecting dust in your home. Clean and dry it. Spray-paint the frame your desired color (we used Luscious Green); let dry.

Step 2

Spray-paint a different color on the matte insert or cardboard cut to fit your picture frame's opening (we used Hacienda); let dry.

Step 3

Measure the length of your frame opening. Cut veneer strips 1 inch longer than the length of your opening (we cut 10 strips to fit an 11-in x 13-in frame). Measure the width of your frame. Cut veneer strips 1 inch longer than the width of your frame (we cut 11 strips to fit an 11-in x 13-in frame). Weave the strips into a basket pattern and glue the woven strips onto the matte insert. Trim off excess and let dry.

Step 4

Slip the matte insert back into the frame. Center the numbers on the woven surface, and then glue them to the veneer; let dry.

Good to Know

This wall art works well for both standing picture frames and hanging picture frames. Hang or place a series of frames with different numbers in a row to create a fun arrangement for a variety of rooms.
