Set Up a Temporary Table
You don’t need a fancy table for your fall feast. Lay a hollow-core door (#10710) on a pair of sawhorses (#162111) and cover with a tablecloth. After the party, save the door for use at future parties or as a display table for garage sales.
Roll Out the Table Decorations
Turn a bamboo window shade (#164100) into a table runner. First snip the cords holding the bottom stick and tie the ends. Cut off the top below the roll-up mechanism and pull out enough strips to tie the strings. Mark a line down the center of the shade and cut with heavy-duty scissors or tin snips. Unroll each section and lay them end to end down the length of the table.
Set the Mood
Invite your friends over to enjoy fall’s comfortably cool temps. Create a grand gateway to your backyard gathering by adding an arbor (#203949), surrounding it with potted mums, and decorating it with an apple-and-leaf garland made with jute twine.
For quick, fun decor, combine two fall favorites: mums and apples. Use a nail, awl, or even a drill with a 1/4-inch bit to make holes in the top of each apple about 1-1/2 inches deep. Snip off mum blooms with 2-inch stems and insert them into the holes. These are best made the day of your party to keep them looking fresh.
Add Sparkle to Your Evening
Wrap tree trunks with strands of white LED lights you can later reuse for the holidays. Loop jute string around the base of the tree and tie the end of the light strand with the metal prongs to the string. Loop the lights around the tree, adding more strings as needed. Then add another loop of string to tie up the top end. Plug the bottom into an extension cord when it’s time to light up your party.
Make an Outdoor Game
Make a stacking tower game from easy-to-cut, inexpensive 2 x 4s for about $15. Then take turns removing and stacking blocks until the pile collapses.
Grill and Chill
Grilling isn’t just for summer. Keep cooking outdoors right through fall with a durable and dependable gas grill (#134489). Remember to cover your grill between uses to protect it from the elements.
