A manufacturer typically only covers defects in materials and workmanship. An EPP does this plus protects against power surges, environmental factors, such as heat, dust and humidity, and failures caused by normal wear and tear.

Customers have up to 30 days after their original product purchase to buy a Lowe's Protection Plan.

Why would I purchase an Extended Protection Plan on a water heater?

Most traditional water heater manufacturers' warranties typically only cover parts and labor for the first year. After the first year most manufacturers will only cover parts, but not labor, for the duration of their warranty. Manufacturers' warranties for tankless water heaters typically do not cover any labor. Buying an EPP provides the customer with in-home labor for the remainder of the manufacturer's parts coverage along with power surge, reinstallation if the water heater is replaced and other benefits that you can read about here. Traditional and Tankless Water Heater plans are available.
