Choose Your Savings
The laundry room is often neglected, but getting organized here can save you time and hassle when you’re doing your laundry. Clear the clutter from your laundry room with a few quick tips to help you get organized.
Collect Your Cleaning Supplies
Don’t let your cleaning supplies run amok in your laundry room. Get them organized using baskets, totes and other carry-all solutions. Keep your cleaning supplies contained in a caddy so it's easy to move them from room to room. This will also keep bottles from tipping over and spilling on wire shelves or other uneven surfaces.
Save Time by Sorting
Sort your clothes by whites, brights, darks and dry cleaning. There are many hampers available with compartments to help you sort as you go, saving you time on laundry day.
Reclaim Wasted Space
Use a slim set of drawers between the washer and dryer to organize clothespins, stain sticks or other small laundry items. Convert corners and upper areas into storage by incorporating shelves and racks to keep odds and ends in check. Get rid of a clunky, hard-to-fold ironing board, and replace it with one that hangs on the back of your door.
Create a Hangout
Remove items that tend to shrink from the dryer while they're still damp. Add a hanging rack to your laundry room to create the perfect space to hang these items. Or use it to put away cotton button-down shirts as you iron them.
Make the Most of Small Spaces
Opt for a stackable washer and dryer in a small space. Open up room for shelving, storage and more by getting rid of larger, bulkier appliances. While buying new appliances can be expensive, if you choose to invest in an energy-efficient washer and dryer, these may save you money over time.
Rescue the Strays
Place a basket or other container in your laundry room for stray socks, keys, buttons, loose change or other items that come out in the wash. If the item goes unclaimed for more than a few weeks, discard it.
