As a general rule, you'll want to:
Use a roller with a short nap for smooth surfaces. Use a roller with ½- to 1-inch nap (or more) for textured walls. With all rolling work, but for ceilings in particular, an extension handle makes for easier work.
If you're not planning to use a paint sprayer for painting your exterior siding, use a roller with an extension handle.
You'll also need some additional supplies. Here's a handy shopping list:
Use Lowe's paint calculator to get the right amount of paint for each room.
Interior paint coverage depends on the brand of paint used. The coverage amount is listed on the label of the paint can. Paint is usually applied at 350-400 square feet per gallon (primer at 200-300 sq. ft. per gallon).
Calculator should be used as estimating tool only.
