A simple desk is the focal point of this office. To create the desk, a sheet of plywood (sanded, primed and painted blue) was attached to a cubbyhole shoe organizer and a storage cabinet for a functional workspace with loads of storage. Pre-glued iron-on edging conceals the plywood edges. A chrome basket slides under the desktop to hold extra paper; an acrylic sheet keeps important notes visible.
On the wall, three shelves provide extra storage and display space. The brackets and corner braces were painted to blend in with the wall. Square dowels, primed and painted blue, were placed vertically for graphic interest.
Good to Know
Store cords safely using cord protectors available at Lowe’s. You also could install an outlet in the floor, or use a beveled wooden threshold to create a cord cover.

Make It: Vertical Storage Unit
Step-by-Step
1. Assemble one storage unit per the manufacturer’s instructions. Assemble the second storage unit, but install the shelves with the unfinished sides facing up and the finished edges facing out. This is necessary because you will be flipping the second unit upside down.
2. Place the two units on a flat work surface with the bottom edges touching. Attach the units together as shown, using mending plates and the included screws.
3. Measure each shelf. Using a T square and utility knife, cut a cork square to fit, and then place on the shelf.

4. Use corner braces to mount the assembly on the wall.
