Instructions

Step 1

Cut plated perforated angle into eight 7-7/8"-long pieces. File the cut edges smooth.

Step 2

Enlarge one box cover screw hole with a 3/8" drill bit to hold the perch. Then use a 1/4" bit to drill centered holes 3/8" from the top and bottom.

Step 3

Paint the angle pieces and box cover with Autumn Crush spray paint. Let dry.

Step 4

Industrial birdhouse step 4

Cut four 8-1/4"-long and one 2-3/4"-long threaded rod and then screw hex nuts 1/2" from the end of each 8-1/4" rod. Lay four angle pieces in a square with the corners overlapping. Thread rods up from the underside of each corner with the hex nut underneath. Add a lock washer and a second hex nut to all four rods and tighten the nuts.

Step 5

Industrial birdhouse step 5

Repeat to attach angle pieces to the other ends of the rods.

Step 6

Industrial birdhouse step 6

Screw a hex nut 3/4" down the 2-3/4"-long threaded rod. Place that end through the enlarged hole in the box cover, and tighten another hex nut on the back to hold the perch in place.

Step 7

Industrial birdhouse step 7

Attach the box cover to plated angles with pairs of stainless-steel cable ties looped through the center holes in the angle pieces.

Step 8

Industrial birdhouse step 8

Cut an 8"-square piece of 1/4"-thick scrap wood and trim the corners enough to fit around the threaded rods. Lay it in the bottom of the birdhouse.

Step 9

Industrial birdhouse step 9

Ask a Lowe's associate to cut four 6-1/4" chains and a 36" chain. Attach an S-hook and a 6-1/4" chain near each corner of the birdhouse.

Step 10

Connect the chain ends to the 36" chain with a fifth S-hook and hang. (We added an artificial nest and eggs as decorative touches.)
