Make the Flowers

Step 1

Wash and dry the drop cloth. To tear strips about 2" wide and 12" - 36" long, make a small cut at the end of the cloth and tear/rip the rest of the strip to create frayed edges. For different-size flowers, vary the lengths of the strips.

Good to Know

We made eight flowers of different sizes to string together for this necklace.

Step 2

Folding end of ripped canvas strip

At the end of one strip, fold a third of the width of the strip over on itself and repeat to make the end three layers thick.

Step 3

Fold and glue fabric to form the flower center

Fold the end of a triple-thick strip onto itself to begin forming the center of the flower. Add dabs of hot glue to hold the fabric together. Repeat two to three more times.

Step 4

Twist and wrap fabric to form petals

Working out from the center, twist the folded fabric as you wrap. Periodically add a drop of hot glue to hold the cloth in place.

Step 5

Turn under the end of the fabric

Continue wrapping to use up the remaining fabric. When you reach the end, turn it to the underside of the flower and glue it in place. Repeat for the remaining flowers.

Make the Necklace

Step 1

Ask a Lowe's associate to cut the chain to the desired length.

Good to Know

Good to Know: Use 2' of chain along with a 12" ribbon on each end so the chain doesn't rub the back of your neck.

Step 2

Arrange the flowers on the chain as desired. Use hot glue to attach them to the chain, making sure that no rough edges are left on the underside. Tie ribbon to both ends of the chain.

Step 3

Drop cloth flowers on pillow

Now that you've mastered making flowers of different sizes, use them individually or in groups to decorate other projects, wear as a pin, or sew onto pillows.
