Instructions

Frost a Glass-Panel Door

Step 1

Remove the door from its hinges and lay it on a work surface in a well-ventilated area with the side to be frosted facing up. Thoroughly clean the glass.

Step 2

Apply a tape border around the glass panes

For a clear border of 1 inch around the frosted area, place 1-in painter's tape around the outside edges of each pane with one tape edge against the wood muntins separating the panes.

Step 3

Tape off muntins and the door framework

Tape the individual muntins and mask off the frame of the door to protect it from overspray.

Step 4

Spray the glass

Follow the label directions to apply an even coat of frosting on each pane. Let dry and apply a second coat. Even if you have to spray a third coat, apply the lightest possible amount with each coat.

Step 5

Remove tape after the frosting dries

After the last coat dries for at least five minutes, remove the tape from the glass, muntins, and the door frame.

Frost Accents on a Table

Step 1

Place the glass tabletop on a work surface in a well-ventilated area with the side to be frosted facing up. (We frosted the underside of the tabletop to avoid scratching the spray finish off the glass.) Clean the glass.

Step 2

Lay strips of 2-in tape around each edge of the table with the tape edge flush with the edges of the glass. Inside the taped boundaries, lay strips of 1-in tape with the edges just touching the pieces of 2-in tape. Inside the area of these two taped rectangles or squares, lay a strip of 1-in tape on each side just touching the middle strips of 1-in tape. Trim the tape ends to form 90-degree corners that don't overlap the middle tape strips. Remove the center strips on all four sides.

Step 3

Protect the center of the glass by covering it with kraft paper and taping it in place. Also, protect the edges of the glass by wrapping them with tape.

Step 4

Spray two coats of frosting according to the label directions. After the final coat dries, remove the tape and kraft paper.
