Project Resources

Step 1

Drill three pocket holes on the bottom face at both ends of the stair tread. Trim the oak nosing to length for each end of the top. (Remember, there's a left and right side for the nosing.) Fasten the nosing to the stair tread with wood glue and pocket-hole screws. Cut 1"x4"s to length: 40-1/2" for the back rail, 42" for the front rail, and two boards 9-3/4" long for the side rails to form the frame.

Step 2

Then drill pocket holes in the ends of the back and side rails to assemble the frame and in the inside faces of the frames parts to secure the top. Assemble the rails with wood glue and pocket-hole screws to complete the frame. Cut two 7-1/4"-long corner braces to length with a 45-degree miter on each end. Sand all of the parts and apply a stain and clear finish of your choice.

Step 3

When the finish is dry, slide the table legs in position. Drill pilot holes and screw the legs to the corner braces. Screw the table to a wall at two wall studs.
