Project Resources

Instructions

Step 1

From the pegboard, cut a 4-ft x 5-ft panel. Apply two coats of paint (Blue Burst shown) and let dry overnight.

Step 2

Print out the Recycling Center Stencils  and have them laminated at a copy shop. Cut out the shapes for the items you plan to recycle. Apply spray adhesive to the backs of the stencils -- including any cutout portions -- and press them firmly against the pegboard above where you’ll mount the galvanized cans.

Step 3

Carefully dab paint around and inside the stencils -- take care to not force paint beneath the stencil edges. Remove the stencils and let dry. Touch up any fuzzy edges with the background color and an artist’s brush.

Step 4

Hold the pegboard against the wall where you’ll mount it and mark the mounting screw locations. Place one at each corner and between each stencil at the top, middle, and bottom. Install the pegboard anchors and mount the pegboard.

Step 5

Add peghooks beneath each stenciled symbol to support the cans and hang the cans. Use the remaining peghooks and space on the pegboard to store supplies as needed.
