Instructions

Step 1

Lattice being cut with a jigsaw

Using a jigsaw with a fine-tooth wood-cutting blade, cut the lattice to size. The one shown is 24 inches by 33 inches. Paint the lattice a color of your choice (Coral Mist shown).

Good to Know

Support both halves of the lattice panel as you near the end of your cut to prevent snapping the thin wood strips.

Step 2

Screw two D-ring hangers to the back of the lattice near the top. Choose intersections of the lattice strips where you don’t plan to add a clamp and glass shade.

Step 3

Unscrew a 4-inch steel clamp until you can lay it flat. Measure and mark the clamp 6-1/2 inches from the screw end. Place the clamp on a scrap board and clamp both firmly to a work surface. At the mark, drill a 3/16-inch hole. Repeat for the remaining clamps.

Good to Know

Use a hammer and nail to make a small dimple in the clamp where you’ll drill the hole. This helps keep the bit from wandering on the smooth metal surface as you drill.

Step 4

Drill a 5/32-inch pilot hole at an intersection of the lattice strips where you’ll install a glass shade. Then screw the clamps to the painted lattice until they’re snug but not too tight.

Step 5

Wrap the clamp strips around a shade where there’s a groove, and screw the ends together to form a loop. Continue tightening until the clamp holds the shade snug -- overtightening can crack the shade. Repeat for the remaining shades.

Step 6

Measure between the D-ring hangers in back. Using a tape measure and level, mark the mounting locations where you’ll install the organizer. Insert wall anchors in locations not directly over a wall stud. Then hang the completed organizer.
