Instructions

Step 1

Have a Lowe's associate cut your plywood to 2' x 2'.

Step 2

How to mark off lines on plywood

Use a 3/8" x 4' craft board to draw two light diagonal guidelines from corner to corner. Next, draw horizontal and vertical lines through the center of the diagonal lines, dividing the plywood into quarters.

Step 3

Sand the plywood using 120-grit sandpaper as needed. Then cut all the craft boards to length and width (Cutting List). Sand the ends smooth, group them by size, and set them aside.

Good to Know

To avoid rounding over the ends of the craft boards, stack the four boards of each size with the ends flush and sand all four at once.

Step 4

Center the 34" craft board on the plywood and mark where it overlaps (about 5"). Apply a bead of glue from mark to mark, and center it vertically on the plywood, dividing it in half.

Step 5

With the two 16-7/8"-long craft boards, apply glue to one edge (minus the 5" overhang) and one end of each. Place them perpendicular to the 34" craft board, one on each side, so they are centered horizontally along the plywood.

Step 6

How to use spacers and attach craft boards

From craft board scraps, cut four spacers 5" long and 1-5/8" wide. Stand them upright against the sides of the horizontal and vertical boards while you glue and press the next size boards against the spacers to create an L shape. Glue the longer section of the L to the plywood first. Then glue the shorter board to the longer board and the plywood.

Step 7

Detail of craft boards on plywood

Continue this process by completing each corner with descending widths of wood. We left our wood bare, but you can paint, stain, or finish your artwork however you like.

Step 8

Attach D-ring hangers to the back of the plywood. Be sure the screws are in line with vertical boards to prevent them from poking through the front of the plywood.
